Stephen Kenealy My Role: (ie, Batting/Bowling style etc) I
can honestly say that I really don't know what I do with the ball
anymore, I used to consistently swing it away but these days its pretty
much up and down, with the occasional in-dipper and an ok slower ball.
This year I am working on improving my batting with a view to getting
up the order. I have opened the batting for the 3rds in times gone by,
but mostly bat down the order on the 4ths. Pretty ok fielder.
Highest score in a match: 67 n.o. opening the batting against Balbriggan for the
3rds. It was an eventful innings, I got sconned on the nose just after
I made my 50 and had to go off, but came back on courageously with 5
overs to go. It is, to date, my only 50.
Best Bowling Figures: 10 - 3 - 5 - 25 for the 3rds against Belvo in the
Semi-final of the Cup. For those of you who weren't around at that time
Belvo and LCC were at Senior 3 level. The games were always a dogfight
and we had a healthy disdain for one another. Brian Delany revelled in
these games, I don't think I would be too wide of the mark by saying he
had a hatred that verged on the psychotic of all Belvederians. Anyway
I think I had 4 slips and two gullys at one stage which is a pretty
strange sight in Cabra. I might be getting this game mixed up with
another one in Cabra, but I think we ended up coming off for good light
(the sun was shining brightly off the terraced houses and was getting
in the batters eyes). The umpire who took us off was female. This
point is made not because it was a bad decision (ahem...) but because
it was the only time I have played in a game with a female umpire. I
cant remember whether we came off and continued on another night or
whether we had to replay the game but either way we lost.
Best cricketing memory: Best cricketing memory: A semi-final Senior
2 cup game against YMCA batting down the order with Matt Brownie for
the last 4 or 5 overs with no wickets left to win the game. I think we
needed 5 off the last over and I hit the winning run off the last ball.
We lost ot the Hills in the final (which ranks up there as one of my
worst cricketing memories)
Worst cricketing memory:On a hatrick in an U-13 game only for the ball to be dropped
at first slip by Michael O'Herlihy (haven't got close since) followed
by a dehumanising game for the 3rds under Allen Smith when we were
pucked to all corners by North Kildare's Guy Satchwell only to be
rolled over for 18 in response. The heavens opened up seconds after,
this was in the days when a rain affected draw actually meant
something.
Funniest Cricketing Moment: Urban legend or not JV Byrne outside some
Georgian cellar wine bar or other proclaiming his recently passed mark
of 5,000 senior runs to a disinterested bouncer as reason enough for
admittance. Neither he nor the group got in.
Favourite International Cricketer: Sanath Jayasuria
Best Teas in Ireland: Mount Juliet, followed by Bagenalstown
Favourite Ground: Leinster
"The Inzamam Award for Temper Tantrums" goes to: Brian Delany in Cabra on a very sunny cup
semi-final day. Followed by Kenny Byrne and Clive Colleran on a
horrible day down in Bagenalstown for the 3rds about 4or 5 years
ago when I thought Kenny was going to unleash a far eastern brand of
combat that would leave them all clutching their windpipes.
Least favourite English cricketer(s):Can't stand Botham on commentary, good player mind
A short summary of me as a player: From now on...an occasional bowling batsmen
