The Renno Ratings 2007 - don't ask

The first installment of the 2007 Renno ratings are dominated by three players. It has been virtually unheard of for players to increase their rating by 200 points, but for a variety of reasons, three players achieved this landmark this month.

Hugh McDonnell spent most of 2006 in the 6ths and 7ths, with a fair bit of success. However, the Ireland U15 player has now started to move up the sides and announced himself in no uncertain terms, with two 50's for the 4ths in the early part of May. A few low scoring matches have followed, but Hugh has still scored 142 runs at 25.5 this season. His rating of 445 is enough to break in to the top 30 batsmen in the club for the first time. Towards the top of the pile is a real ugly duckling to beautiful swan type of transformation. It must be said that I never thought I'd compare Rob Miley to a beautiful swan, and probably wouldn't to his face, but there you go.2006 was an up and down year for Miley, never really establishing himself in the 1sts, and not really scoring in the 2nds either, including a 6 innings stretch in mid-season where he couldn't get into double figures. However all that has changed in 2007, with Miley looking every inch the senior player that he surely must be for the next 10 years at least. In 7 innings this season, he has rattled off scores of 45, 58, 55, 31, 4, 68 and 23, his 1st, 2nd and 3rd senior 50s - 284 runs at nearly 41. This has been enough to propel Miley to 3rd in the club, up from 19th at the end of 2006.

Top spot though goes to the indominatable Mark Jones, whose rating of 1062 is the highest batting rating scored in the ratings, now in their 5th season. Although injury meant that only 6 innings count (the minimum is 5) those 6 innings were pretty special - 81*, 3, 18, 74*, 145 and 43 - 364 runs at 91. The previous highest was Umar Abrahams last July. Next month will see the qualification of Anton Devcich and Barrington Yearwood - there may well be a bit of competition at the top.

In the bowling, the temporary absence of Sarfraz Anwar (busily studying for bean counting exams) has meant that Will Lennon has re-taken top spot, for the first time since May 2005. Anton Scholtz's explosive start to the season sees him move up to 4th, whilst Rory Geraghty has returned to big time action, 6 wickets in the ratings at 15.8. He lies in 5ths spot.

In the "I can do everything" department, Lennon leads for the first time since May 06, but with a strong challenge from Anton Scholtz, who could well be leading by the time the June ratings are out.
