Sevenths Introduction:
Similarly, the 7ths were established in 1999 by Bob Cramp, to give some league cricket to a few who weren't getting a game. However, after dipping their toes in the 1998 Minor Cup, the 7ths won Junior C at theri first attempt in 1999, and had another promotion in 2002 (although the 6ths blocked them from moving up), before a successful league campaign in 2004 saw them move up to Junior A (where the 5ths were playing as recently as 1995!). They've also had runners-up medals in the 2000 and 2004 Minor Cups.

Renno's Review 2009
League - The 7ths should have been relegated in 2008, and for a bunch of guys who are only trying to have a bit of fun, Junior A is a division too high. It was another tough season, in the end finishing in the same position as last year.
Cup - First round loss to Old Belvedere
Review - Communications with the normally reliable 7ths skipper broke down this year, so I don't really have a full picture of their season. Of those matches I have, Asim Mumtaz is the star with 166 @ 41.5 in the four matches he played. With the ball, Niall Carroll took 9 wickets @ 13. There may have been some stellar performances, but Mr Byrne seemingly disappeared into a black hole.
7th XI News 2009
August 9th - We have news! It's only of a defeat, but from little acorns etc. The 7ths travelled down to the home of the all conquering North Wicklow/Avondale/Oakhill/Bray/ whoever else you're having, and received a thumping, which we seem to have been receiving all year from the Wicklow super-club. Thanks to runs from stand in skipper Casserley (22), Nazi (36) and a Mr Block (22), 132 was reached, which depending on conditions, may or may not be a decent total. On this day, it looks as if it wasn't, as North Wicklow cruised to an 8 wicket win, Niall Carroll at one end of the age spectrum taking a solitary wicket, and Jack Mullen at the opposite end doing likewise.

August 3rd - Apologies for the continuing news black out from the 7ths. No explaination I'm afraid. I do know that the 5ths couldn't get a team on the Bank Holiday Monday, hence the 7ths travelled on block to take on Sandyford 2nds in Inter A.

July 18th - News arrives of a 7th team win, enough to cheer the soul on this wet late August morn. Peter May managed to slip under my radar for most of the season. After training hard all winter, May arrived to the season in June (or July, but not May) and has possibly been having a good season in the 7ths, except I haven't seen many scorecards. Anyway, he was the reason that this game, against North Kildare 3rds was won, a handy 21 (along with Ullah's 28 and Casserly's 18) taking Leinster to 118 in Kenilworth Square. I've learnt that if this was a wet Kenilworth, 118 is a good score. If it was dry, it wasn't. Whatever the weather, May took four North Kildare wickets (for 23 from 7), as they were dismissed for 87.

July 11th - More results from the 7ths. Many thanks to Kenny Byrne, who probably has better things to be doing with his time than emailing me scorecards. This match against Knockharley 2nds looks as if it was one of those times when Leinster were saved by the rain. After limping to 111-9 from 40 overs (I Ayaz top scoring with 38), Knockharley had raced to 36-0 from eight when the rains came. 16 points each.

July 4th - An excellent Independence Day chase from the 7ths, all the more suitable if anyone had anything to do with America at all. They didn't, so I suppose it was just a remarkable chase. Railway Union 4ths got a distinctly useful 209-6 in Kenilworth Square, the Blocks taking the bowling plaudits with 1-23 from 8 (Howard) and 2-24 from 7 (Marty). It wasn't looking good for Leinster, until a fourth wicket partnership of plenty between Asim Mumtaz (65) and A Ullah (40) put them back on track. There were a few late innings flutters, before Marty Block and DD Mulcahy put on 20 odd for the 8th wicket to see Leinster home

June 26th - Another glorious LCC cup run brought to an end before it had even started. This time, the 7ths ran into the juggernaut that is the lower sides of Old Belvedere. Leinster made 174-7, which is never the worst score in the world in the Junior Cup. Bard Overmans made 36 and Asim Mumtaz 43. Unfortunately, 274 may not have been enough, as Belvo cruised it for the loss of only two wickets.

June 1st - What was nearly a great chase, became a crushing disappointment as Balbriggan 2nds beat the 7ths by 5 runs in this early June encounter. The bowlers looked as if they did a great job, Niall Carroll especially (4-15 from 8), although Howard Block, Gareth Delany,, Rory McMahon and Kenny Byrne all went for over four an over. 179 proved to be not enough in the cup match in late June, but in early June it was just enough. Leinster were cruising when Dunne and Mumtaz put on 80 for the third wicket, but once they went, the whole pack of cards came tumbling down. Numbers 5 through 11 all went for single figures, as the 7ths just fell short.

May 30th - Details of the 7th's season are bit hard to come by at the moment. The match against Knockharley should have been game three, I'm not sure as to whether the Pembroke game on May 24th was played. All will be revealed. This was a heartbreaking loss by one wicket. Leinster were dismissed for 142 in the 37th over, top scorers (apart from extras) were Hugh Mullen (22), the skipper Kenny Byrne (23), and B Ovenden (26). This may have been enough on a different day, but Knockharley sneaked home, despite the best efforts of Niall Buckley (3-15), Niall Carroll (2-25) and Mr Overnden (2-17). Hopefully I will have details of the 7th's exploits in June shortly.

Monday 4th May - The pre match rumours from Marlay Park were off grass that hadn't been cut for months. Whether this is true or not, the scorecard has all the hallmarks of one of those matches played on surfaces that aren't that condusive to runmaking. Batting first the 7ths didn't really even make it worth their while turning up, being dismissed for 85 - only Trevor Dunne able to hold his head up high with a valiant 34. Sandyford took their time in replying (as is their want). Howard Block took 2-12 from 8 at the beginning, but there was never any danger of Sandyford not getting there.

Sunday 26th April - Persistent overnight drizzle is enough to scupper the chances of playing the first game of the season. Please, please can we not have to suffer this fate all season
