Renno's Review 2007
League
- It just never got going. The rain just kept rearing it's ugly head,
and any rhythm just refused to surface. The season is probably best
summed up by not playing a single league game after 29th July. Saying
that though, a solid 4th wasn't the worst finish in the world, and the
cup more than made up for it.
Cup
- Winners! As I've stated elsewhere on the site, it was a bit of a
bizarre cup run, including a bye, Knockharkey being dismissed for 36 and Sandyford being defeated in a bowl out. But that cup final more than made up for it, with
Hugh McDonnell and Steve Kenealy's partnership being one of the
highlights of the season at any level. For a hilarious take on it, I
thouroughly recommend Dave Lappin's report below.
Review
-
The 4ths season was shaped by skipper Rob O'Connor. Aside from his
captaincy and off the field capabilities, his bowling dominated.
Although Charles Richards topped the averages (1-1 from 2 balls for the season)it was O'Connor who did the donkey work, with some reward. No one else bowled more than 50 overs (he bowled 93), no one took more than 11 wickets (he took 22).As with
the 3rds, further league success was probably down to lack of support,
probably in the spin department (the leading spinner was Naga
Trakulara, and he only took 3 wickets). The batting was a good bit
healthier. No less than six scoring more than 100 runs in the season, with
Dave Staunton (210 @ 52), Graham Whelan (189 @37) and Hugh McDonnell
(260 @ 32) leading the way. With promotion not a possibility, due to
the 2nds holding everyone up, the season was about as good as could be.
