Renno's Review 2007
League - An up and down season if ever there was one. May saw two won and one lost, rain swept June one victory from one match, failure in July with
the only match lost, a win, a loss and a draw in August, before finally
two wins and two draws in September. Bonus points enabled the team to
finish in 4th place with 65.2%. The team, which was lead by many over the season (principally Amjad, Scully and Rodgers), was pressing for promotion for a while, but the inconsistency jeopardised that.
Cup - 1st round loss to The Hills
YM Salver - Q/F loss in hastily arranged match against Railway!
Review
- To be honest, the season felt a lot more successful than it actually
was. Whilst 4th place is not to be sniffed at, many of the six defeats
were in matches that really should have been won. There was enough
quality on the pitch to achieve more, but in fairness the team was
probably one bowler
and one batsman short of glory. Seven men scored 100 runs for the season, with
Luke Ginnell (468@33),Clive Colleran (333@66) and Dave Staunton
(282@40) leading the way. In fact 12 50's were scored in the 15 games -
it wasn't as if the batting was particularly to blame. The
bowling though seemed to struggle - whilst Rodgers (20 wickets @28),
Dockrell (having a great season with 17@17) and Sabir (16@20)
all took wickets, it wa only the offspin of Dockrell that averaged
under 20. Pehaps Rob O'Connors exploits on the 4ths were missed?
