League
- What can you say? Finally promotion was achieved at the 8th time of asking. It didn't start well, with
two losses in the first three games, but after that it was plain
sailing (apart from one loss to Phoenix in the park). As is always the case,
momentum is key, and once the ball starts rolling , it is difficult to
stop. The two crucial victories were against eventual runners up
Malahide on 24th August (by 19 runs)followed up the day after by a 28
run win over Phoenix. Comprehensive wins over Munster and Pembroke put
the icing on a cake.
DGM
League - Probably the most disappointing competition of the season.
Three dominant vicories over Malahide, Munster and CY saw a quarter
final spot achieved, before Munster objected to Barrington Yearwood
being too good. Leinster were thrown out of the competition, Munster
failed to raise a team for the quarter final, and Yearwood
departed these shores mid season, bemused at being told he was too
good, although he then couldn't buy a wicket.
Cup
- A fairly non descript campaign. A facile win over Pembroke, with Mark Jones dominating with 145 was followed up by a equally convincing defeat to eventual finalists Merrion.
20/20 - In many respects, a similar result to that of the Senior Cup. This team of renowned non 20/20 specialists qualified for
the semis, after a victory over Old Belevedere and narrow loss to the
Hills was enough to top the group on a summer's day on Milverton. The
semi saw North County and Merrion thoroughly outplay the Leinster men, with Leinster hardly taking a wicket on the day. '
Review
-
A season of success. The number one aim was to return to Section A, and that was achieved (in the end with some ease). Will Lennon's captaincy galvanised the team for the last couple of years, and provided the impetus for the promotion push. On the pitch the averages tell an interesting story. Overall with
the bat, Scholtz, Jones and O'Dwyer all scored over 500 runs, but it
was Scholtz who provided the backbone to the league campaign, averaging
45 to Jones and O'Dwyer's 16 each. Howeveer with Lucas,
Devcich, Mallon and Lennon all scoring well in the league, there were
always enough runs. On the bowling front, the seam attack of Anwar,
Gilmore and Lennon excelled, being well backed up by the spin of
Scholtz, Goodman and Devcich. All took over 10 league wickets
